Overview of Research Problems in Medicine

ABSTRACT

This talk will focus on doing research in medicine. It will occur in three parts. Dr Jones will address the structure of the Fairfax Family Practice residency program and its relationship to INOVA Medical Group, INOVA, and the Medical College of Virginia. Dr Krist will then present a basic introduction to Evidence Based Medicine, a shift in the focus of medical research. Specific isssues relating to conducting research in the primary care practice setting will be addressed. Finally, Dr Woolf will present an overview of the Primary Care Physicians Network which is currently being established. This network will allow data to be collected in an ongoing fashion from multiple practice sites over the state of Virginia, and would further provide a framework for conducting future research.

The speakers, who are practicing physicians, are active in medical research. Dr. Jones is Residency Director of Fairfax Family Practice. Dr. Woolf is Editor for U.S. Preventative Services Task Force.
