William B. Smith

National Science Foundation

ABSTRACT

Both inside the NSF and elsewhere, statistical scientists are uniquely positioned affect progress in the information age. Exciting new developments in funding federal emphases have opened and enlivened research and education opportunities in the mathematical sciences, particularly in statistics. The momentum is building to not only publicly discuss the new avenues available for our discipline, but also to share invigorating shifts that will have profound impact of the manner and direction in which our discipline conducts research, educates, and collaborates. In this presentation, I will discuss existing programs, new directions NSF are planning in the statistical sciences and funding opportunities within the mathematical and information technology sciences; social, behavioral, and social sciences; and cross-disciplinary, NSF-wide initiatives.
