On the Selection of a Distance Measure in Discriminant Analysis

Carey Priebe, David Marchette, and Jeff Solka (speaker)

ABSTRACT

This talk will present some preliminary results on the selection of a distance measure in support of discriminant analysis. The talk will discuss data smoothing, dimensionality reduction, and distance measurement issues. Some recent results applying these techniques to an artificial olfactory discriminant analysis problem will be given. The relationship of the effort to hyperspectral image analysis and adaptive sensors will be discussed time permitting.
