Biosketch




Juan Raul Cebral was born on April 8th, 1967 in Plaza Huincul in the Province of Neuquen (Patagonia), Argentina. He finished his undergraduate studies in Physics at University of Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1991. Completed his PhD in computational Sciences and Informatics at George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia, USA in 1996. After several years as a Research Scientist, he is currently an Associate Professor of Computational Sciences at George Mason University. He researches in image-based modeling of hemodynamics. In particular, blood flows in cerebral aneurysms, carotid arteries, cerebral arteries, etc. This research has been carried out in close collaboration with Interventinal Neuroradiologists from Inova Fairfax Hospital. His research goal is to develop computational tools for clinical research and medical treatment planning of cerebrovascular diseases. This multi-disciplinary research involves medical image analysis, solid modeling, unstructured grid generation, computational fluid dynamics, fluid-structure coupling, computer graphics and visualization, high performance and grid computing, clinical databases, anatomy and physiology. He has established several collaborations with investigators from various institutions in the US and abroad. He has been funded by the Whitaker Foundation, Philips Medical Systems and the American Heart Association.
