In order to get back on track, let's try to finish Ch. 4 by starting with subsection 4.7.4 on p. 70, and going to the end of the chapter. (By doing this, we'll be skipping a bit of stuff right before subsec. 4.7.4, but we can try to make up for that when we get to the case studies and have to use the material.) I'll assign a small portion of the material to each person who has been attending regularly. It seems to me that for some parts, overheads may be a good way to go. Also, for some parts, an outline mentality may be good. Even though Harrell makes smallish sections and subsections, and even uses lists rather frequently, often it's still hard to figure out the structure of Harrell's story. Note that I'm not going to bat leadoff like I used to do so often in previous years. (For Tigers fans, I'm going to assume a role that's part Sparky Anderson (despite the fact that Charles looks more like Sparky) and part Gates Brown.) subsec 4.7.4 *** Jim S. *** A short but packed subsection. Working up an example to illustrate the 1st paragraph would be a big plus. subsec 4.7.5 *** Jim G. *** Very short subsection. subsec 4.7.6 *** Arndt L. *** Note that Fig. 4.3 on p. 75 should be considered to be part of this subsection. Sec 4.8 *** James W. *** Fairly straightforward, if one is up on standard regression stuff. After briefly chatting about p. 74, it would be benficial to clearly describe what each of the main things on p. 76 is. Sec 4.9 *** Charles P. *** We could benefit from a good discussion of the top 1/2 of p. 78. Would be helpful to briefly indicate what the ROC curve is (since it seems to be covered later in the book). subsec 4.10.1 *** Mark L. *** A long subsection, with a lot of points. Still, may be best to treat each point separately. subsec 4.10.2 *** Jill M. *** Much shorter than the preceding subsection. subsec 4.10.3 *** Allen K. *** Even shorter yet. There are 8 chunks. If we get started on time, that's 15 minutes per chunk. Some sections are longer than others, and we should allow for a lot of questions and group discussion. But each person could plan on giuing a 2 to 8 minute summary, depending on length of chunk, and then with discussion, we could spend between 5 and 20 minutes on each section.
