ABSTRACT

A variety of software packages, such as Excel, Access, ACL, and RAT-STATS are used in business. These packages include random number generators for sampling. How do these generators compare to the closely scrutinized generators of standard statistical software packages, such as SAS, SPSS and S-PLUS? The DIEHARD battery of tests as well as tests from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) are used to assess random number generators used in business.
