Latent Class Discovery During Discriminant Analysis

Jeffrey L. Solka
Naval Surface Warfare Center

ABSTRACT

This talk will discuss a new methodology for the discovery of latent classes within data sets. A latent class is a subclass of a particular data set that is initially unknownto the user. The latent class discovery process is particularly interesting when it occurs during the process of discriminant analysis. Several different methods to facilitate the latent class discovery process will be discussed along with some preliminary results from the areas of artificial olfactory classification and gene expression analysis.
